Article THE RESEARCH OF THE EPIPHANY CHURCH, ST. GEORGE'S PARISH OF THE VOLOGDA CITY ON THE BASIS OF NEWLY DISCOVERED ARCHIVAL INFORMATION AND FIELD STUDIES
Authors I.K. Beloyarskya, Vologda State University, Vologda, Russia
Abstract St. George parish complex, located in The Zarechensky Posad of Vologda in the place called "Navolok", consisted of three buildings – the cold St. George's Church, built in conjunction with a high bell tower and a warm Church of the Epiphany. After the destruction of the cold Church and bell tower in 1936, the warm Church of the Epiphany is the only surviving building of the ensemble, which was part of the dominant system, forming the river facade of the city of Vologda. In 1991, the warm Church was included in the list of cultural heritage sites, but only in the beginning of the 21-st century additional buildings were removed and the opportunity appeared to perform a full-scale historical and bibliographic research and field surveys which resulted in: 1) determination of the three construction phases (construction of the temple with trekchatroom completion, one-pillar refectory); 2) specification of the date of construction - the second quarter of the seventeenth century and named in the name of the Epiphany of the Lord; 3) was proved that the warm Church of the Epiphany is the second (after St. Sophia's Cathedral) stone building and the first stone parish Church in in the city of Vologda.
