ArticleFORMATION OF MEDITERRANEAN ISLAND ARCHITECTURE IN HISTORICAL RETROSPECTIVE. PART 6. THE PERIOD OF BRONZE AGE ON SARDINIA (Continuation)
Authors T. Zabalueva
National Research Moscow State Construction University, Moscow, Russia
Abstract The article describes urban planning, architectural and construction features of the Nuragic complexes of Sardinia during the Bronze Age. The inconsistency of the evidence base about the origin of the people who inhabited the island during this period, largely explains the specifics of these grandiose buildings, so unlike any other buildings in the Mediterranean. Nuraghe, United in large complexes, have become multi-functional facilities that support the defense community, its religious beliefs and daily life. Several combined Nuraghe with defensive walls and residential villages, placed at the foot of the citadel, are represented by prototypes of medieval castles. The sacred wells, which are found as part of Nuragic complexes, in most cases demonstrate the high level of architectural and construction business of this period on the island.
