Abstract The article presents the results of a study on the relationship of religious and philosophical categories of Orthodox religion and issues of architectural typology of Orthodox churches in modern times. The evolutionary duality in relation to the typological evolution of the architecture of Orthodox churches is shown. Temples evolve, preserving the purpose and unity of the original meaning of the formation of the temple space. Social and town-planning changes in the conditions of formation of the architectural type and image of the Orthodox Church in modern times are balanced by the impact of conceptual content of the architectural image on the basis of traditional religious and philosophical values and approaches. A partial comparison of the orthodox churches with the churches of traditional Western denominations from the point of assessing the religious and philosophical boundaries of the architectural type.
Keywords: architecture, Russian Orthodox Church, an architectural type of the Orthodox Church, the evolution of the architecture
