Abstract
This article presents a theoretical approach to one of the variants of proportional analysis of the volumetric-spatial composition of Orthodox churches. The possibility of comparing church compositions with natural objects, such as mineral crystalline and molecular structures, is considered. A general comparison is made for a number of the most well-known trends in Russian church architecture, such as Old Novgorod architecture, ancient wooden architecture, classicism, and others. The proposed approach is assessed as an analytical tool for designing churches in the complex conditions of modern urban development.
