Abstract
The authors examine approaches to integrating historical complexes into the modern urban environment, using the territory of the Novosibirsk Military Town as a case study. Problems arising from working with such architectural heritage are described. The current Russian and international experience of successful examples of renovation of historical development areas is analyzed. Based on the studied examples and scientific principles, possible solutions to the key problems of objects of this typology have been identified. A concept for a comprehensive approach to the development of the studied territory is proposed, taking into account the preservation of its specifics and the types of interaction between historical and modern architecture. A range of new functions has been developed, linked to the existing environmental context and considering the needs of the population, and a system of routes and new public spaces has been created.
