AbstractThe problem of the color organization of the urban environment is particularly acute in the conditions of the Far North of Russia. In conditions of harsh climatic conditions and short daylight hours, it is important not only to use active polychromy, but also artificial lighting, including chromatic. The use of these means can compensate for the lack of light and color, helping to solve artistic and aesthetic problems in architectural and urban planning design in northern cities. The authors of the article consider topical issues of the formation of the coloristic environment of Norilsk, Mirny and other settlements. The emphasis is placed on geographical and natural-climatic conditions as prevailing, which have a special impact on the design of the color environment of relatively young northern cities. Regional features and color preferences of residents, the morphology of architectural and urban planning forms are also analyzed in order to find new approaches in architectural coloristic design in the conditions of the North.
