AbstractThe article deals with the neo-Renaissance style in the Russian orthodox architecture. That style was very rare in the field of orthodox architecture of that time. Ivanovskiy convent in Moscow was the very rare exemplar of neo-Renaissance Russian church architecture. It was created by one of the most prominent Moscow-based architects of the second half of the XIX century Michail D. Bykovsky. The architect decided to choose Italian model for the convent architecture. The models were the church Santa Maria del Fiore with its famous dome built by Filippo Brunelleschi and the so called Giotto’s Tower in Florence. The article deals with the problem of interpretation of the Renaissance forms in Russian architecture of the second half of the XIX century.
