Article	ARCHAIC DWELLING OF CHINA

Abstract	The article presents the review of residential units of neolithic and bronze cultural centres of Northern China. Drawing on the archeological data, the author analyses archaic buildings of half-dugout and landside types and outlines the development of various elements that would become traditional for Chinese architecture, namely interior wooden structure, outside roundabout gallery, and building footing above ground level. The analysis performed leads to conclusions on a gradual process of compilation of main planning, constructional, and other principles of creating traditional Chinese residential units, originating from the early stages of Chinese civilisation development.
