AbstractThe article focuses on the study of architectural and planning features of vernacular low-rise residential buildings in Baku, caused by natural and climatic factors of the Absheron Peninsula, where the city is located. The Peninsula, located in Azerbaijan on the Western coast of the Caspian sea, is characterized by a dry subtropical climate with hot dry summers, frequent strong winds and rich deposits of natural building material – limestone. These natural and climatic features influenced the formation of architectural and planning features of public housing and low-rise residential development in the region, including the city of Baku. However, at the present stage of development of low-rise housing architecture, the natural and climatic conditions of the region and its relief are often ignored, that leads to the loss of the originality of low-rise residential development.
Keywords: public housing, low-rise residential building, climate, relief, architectural traditions, planning features, Absheron peninsula
