Article PLANAR AND SPATIAL GRIDS IN ARCHITECTURE OF NEW MODERNISM
Authors M. Mindiashvili, Moscow Institute of Architecture (State Academy), Moscow, Russia
Abstract Current article analyzes the ideas and methods of formation of architecture of “New Modernism”. One of the significant principles of creation of new architectural forms is the method of transformation of grid. Grid is one of the conventional elements of architecture; its usage is rooted in ancient cultures and civilizations. The morphogenesis of architecture of “New modernism” recalls application of grid and shows its reformation from a planar grid to a spatial grid. New type of architectural constructions has appeared. The “skin”, “blob”, “thread”, “bench”, “bubble” become a new constructive units, which formation is impossible without spatial grids. The article also provides an analysis of interdisciplinary scientific ideas concerning the construction of mesh shapes.
Keywords: new modernism, the architecture of the XXI century, parametricism, digital architecture, spatial grid, nonlinear surface, architectural shell, diagrammatic formations
