Article LIGHTING AS A MORPHOGENETIC TOOL IN ARCHITECTURE OF THE MOSCOW METRO
Authors Y. Dubrovsky, Moscow Institute of Architecture (State Academy), Moscow, Russia
Abstract

The article is devoted to the influence of light on the structure of underground space, the architecture forms of the Moscow metro stations. Light might be an integrity factor of the movement-in-space developed ensembles, such as Baumanskaya and Oktyabrskaya stations. Another aspect of of lighting and illumination is the managment of passenger traffic and its movement, the organization of transitional spaces and stations junction corridors. Moreover, there are reviewed the methods of the underground space tectonics represented with true, false and lightening tectonics. «Lightening tectonics» means the extension of space, escaping the constructive built boundaries, visual lightness. There is explored how developed Dushkin’s principles of light architecture in R. Pogrebnoy’s and L. Popov’s designs. Thus, this article revealed the «light» and «movement» concepts combination in the morphology of the Moscow metro stations.
