| Abstract |
The article presents the author's concept of «environmental palimpsest» as a tool for analyzing and transforming the urban environment, aimed at revealing and actualizing the multi-layered identity of post-Soviet cities. The concept is based on the urban metaphor of «city as palimpsest», which states multi-layeredness as a result of historical development. Post-Soviet cities are characterized not by dialogue but by conflict between these layers, leading to the loss of cultural, architectural and national identity. The proposed concept offers a new tool for overcoming this conflict. Its application on the example of Minsk demonstrates how the concept of «environmental palimpsest» turns conflict into a resource for revealing and constructing identity in the context of the post-Soviet socio-cultural reality.
