Article MICROCLIMATE AND BIOCLIMATIC COMFORT OF TRADITIONAL ARAB URBAN STRUCTURE
Authors M. Myagkov, Moscow Institute of Architecture (State Academy), Moscow, Russia
Abstract Bioclimatic comfort is the most important parameter and a prerequisite of the architectural environment. It is known that each type of climate corresponds to certain types of architecture and planning, possessed by the native population as a result of centuries of experience. Theese types provide the most comfortable living conditions with the consumption of a minimum amount of resources in the construction and operation. In the context of the ongoing global warming, which is believed to be caused by anthropogenic activities, special attention is drawn to the architectural traditions of countries with hot dry climates. With this respect the article discusses the microclimatic mechanisms that provide bioclimatic comfort of traditional Arab architecture. The study was based on the mathematical modeling method implemented in the software ENVI-met. It is shown how these microclimatic mechanisms forms and works in real conditions and how they can be used in modern architectural and construction practice.
