AbstractThe article provides an overview of the historical formation and design of children's summer camps in Europe, the USA, and Russia. The analysis, which surveys literature produced in Russian as well as other languages, enables the authors to develop a general classification based on the characteristics of camps. It reflects their variety of purpose and location, their spatial and planning solutions, and issues of temporality in the planning of children's camps. The authors argue that this research is highly topical, given the condition of children's summer camps today. A succinct analysis of the state of affairs reveals gaps in the normative foundations of the entire system of children's recreational facilities.
