AbstractThe article analyzes the history of the development Berlin’s city structure from the end of the 18th century until the end of the International Building Exhibition (Internationale Bauausstellung) IBA-84/87 in 1987. Historical background of the exhibition was defined. The considered examples of buildings allow the author to divide them into categories, to formulate principles for the formation of new models of urban development, as well as to identify the general results of activities that provide an impact on Berlin’s new city development.
