Abstract The article deals with the issues of building and design of the data centres which potentially are capable to solve the problems of the society having to deal with the ever-growing mass of the information; aspects of development of the data centres as one of the key assets for harnessing the new IT technologies and fast retreiving of data whenever needed. The article provides an overview of the key factors of data centres development as key assets shaping urban and socio-informational landscape in large cities.
