Article	THE ROLE OF URBAN LANDSCAPING IN THE FORMATION OF THE IMAGE OF SMALL RUSSIAN TOWNS. SOCIAL OBJECTIVES AND PROBLEMS OF SETTLEMENT IDENTITY

Abstract	Based on Contest materials "Historical Settlements and Small Towns" (2018), the author demonstrates how street canvas – cross section and street cover material – can make the whole street traditional or decidedly modernized. The pattern of street lamps, benches and sheds changes the image of the place. The most decisive changes are brought by the proposals of urban space reorganization. The article shows the connection between the landscaping tasks and the problems of urban identity.
