Abstract	The problem of deficiency of land resources for residential development and the ever-increasing population of Moscow led to the spreading of a new type of residential real estate - apartments. This type of housing first appeared abroad, and in the 90s of the 20th century its active construction began in Russia. The article analyzes current problems and tendencies of design and construction of apartments. The signs of the main types and classes of apartments were formulated. Based on the studied domestic and foreign experience, as well as analysis of statistical data, prospects for development of such type of real estate were defined.
