Article ABOUT THE MODERN UNDERSTANDING OF ASCETICISM IN THE CHURCH ARCHITECTURE
Authors S.V. Borisov, Moscow Institute of Architecture (State Academy), Moscow, Russia
AbstractIn the article we consider various aspects of asceticism in the temple architecture. We have raised the question of the qualitative characteristics of creative concepts that tend to reduce the means of artistic expressiveness. We noted the mismatch of preferences in the field of temple architecture between the professional environment and the Russian Orthodox community. We analyzed the West European sources of minimalist art of the second half of the XIX century, lying outside of Christianity. We have examined the interrelationships of the tenets of ascetic Protestantism and artistic creativity in societies historically associated with Reformed theology. In the article, we investigated the problems of reducing the means of artistic expressiveness in the context of the notion of Western European worldly asceticism. In analyzing the question of soil for minimalist tendencies in art and architecture, we have examined the manifestations of asceticism outside the religious sphere. We have drawn a conclusion about the various contents of modern minimalist trends and Christian asceticism in architecture. We noted the significant difficulties of spreading the creative concepts that have non-Christian foundations to the modern temple architecture of Orthodoxy
Keywords: Orthodox Church, asceticism, minimalism, dogmas of Protestantism, reduction of means of artistic expressiveness
