The article is devoted to questions of organisation of public space in high-rise building and its role in the formation of a high-rise building architecture. The article illustrates the evolution of the public space of a skyscraper under the influence of changes in the requirements for a functional structure. The text reveals the dependence of development levels of public space from the perspective of social groups needs, influence of public space in a different combination of its dependence levels on the structure of a high-rise building. It is proposed a hypothesis of further development of high-rise building as a sustainable type on the basis of the structure of its social space, when it acts as a compositional base and defines the architecture of the skyscraper entirely.
