The article exams results of 25-year-old stage of lighting design development in Moscow. A brief history of outdoor lighting in the capital is observed. Was set out the organizational features of the process, methodology, design and implementation of architectural lighting projects sites in the city at the end of XX - beginning of XXI centuries. We noted some unresolved problems of the theory and practice of lighting design in particular, the lack of integrated planning and implementation of outdoor lighting installations, critical evaluation of the results of activities in this area which is considered as a new promising area of creative activity and research in acute shortage of qualified personnel in Moscow and Russia.
