Abstract

In the article the main problems, approaches and principles of the transformation of public spaces in areas of panel building on the experience of Germany in the second half of the 20th century are considered. On the experience of six large residential areas in Germany, the main design strategies for the transformation of public spaces in residential areas are highlighted: sustainable development, identity preservation and increase interactivity. Materials are the result of a scientific and practical seminar on the program of the international research project "The Unloved Heritage of Socialist Cities?" in the framework of academic cooperation of Germany, Russia and Ukraine universities.
