Abstract

The article is devoted to transformation of university courtyard from open yard, with recreational function to roofed atrium with amphitheater for public events and self study zone. According to the active usage of computer technologies, during the last ten years, university public space alongside with classrooms became one of the main part of the educational process. Atrium may have different functions in modern university campus: it may be the continuation of outside space inside of building, it may have the communicative function, it may be the center, where is focused public life of campus, or it may be its main artery. Here are analyzed different examples of atriums in modern European university campuses.
