Abstract The article examines the state of Ukrainian economic residential buildings design and construction norms in comparison with regulatory requirements of developed countries. Standards of cost-effective housing design in the United States, Denmark, France and the Czech Republic are considered. As examples of the implementation of these requirements the construction of such buildings in France and Canada are offered.
