Authors E. Paley, "Architectural Studio "Sergey Kiselev & Partners", Moscow, Russia
Abstract Campus is an area of land that contains the main buildings of a university or college. Campus consists of educational, laboratories, living, sport, administrative and accompanying facilities. But, community spaces also play a very important role in the structure of campus. There are several types of community spaces: a self study space – is a small space containing a table for self study for one or several persons, a courtyard – it may be an open yard, or an enclosed atrium – it is the main community space of campus during the cold time of a year and an additional and the largest auditorium for community activities, a square – is a town planning element and the main community space connecting campus and city, it often plays the role of the “face” of campus, a grassy lawn – is the main greenery of campus, it is also the main recreation space. Every type of space has it's own character, topic and architectural philosophy. The aim of architects is to develop every of these aspects and combine all of them in a convincing composition.
