Authors Y. Kosenkova, Branch of "TSNIIP Ministry of Construction of Russia" Scientific Research Institute of Theory and History of Architecture and Urban Planning, Moscow, Russia
Abstract The article analyzes the condition of the architectural and urban planning ideas in the first half of the 1950s, just before the official "reorientation of creative direction of Soviet architecture" in the middle and the end of the decade. The study reveals the nature of the appraisals of cities development that were given in the course of summing up the post-war reconstruction of the country. The author points out the duality of such assessments coming from the architects themselves, as well as from the government. The article shows the evolution of the discourse of the Soviet city and the gradual filling of the old rhetorical forms with new content, which was motivated by transition of architecture to an industrial basis.
