Article RULED SURFACES AS A STRUCTURAL, FUNCTIONAL AND ARTISTIC INSTRUMENT OF GAUDI’S ARCHITECTURE
Authors O. Leksina, The Moscow State Art-Industrial Academy behalf SG Stroganoff, Moscow, Russia
Abstract The article is devoted to ruled surfaces used by Gaudi to create the so-called organic shapes. Analysis of recently published foreign papers devoted to Gaudi’s heritage makes it clear that in addition to the common notion of Gaudi as of a brilliant architect he is becoming recognized as a great designer possessing a vanguard thinking. During his last working period Gaudi invented a new architectural language based on ruled surfaces, which has been taken over by many outstanding architects of the ÕÕ century and persists in the ÕÕI century. This fact demonstrates that the architectural language invented by Gaudi rests beyond the style and the time. This phenomenon (in its turn) may be explained by the fact, that this language is based on a universal regularity that Gaudi’s genius could comprehend.
