Article EVOLUTION OF PRECONDITIONS OF CONCEPT ECOPOLIS IN THE TOWN-PLANNING THEORY XX XXI CENTURIES

Abstract The article discusses appearance and evolution of term Ecopolis, and compares the differences between city, sustainable city, ecocity and Ecopolis which defines the core of Ecopoliss idea. The article presents the Four Ecological Phases of Human Existence (according to Boyden), the emergence of a fifth phase in the modern period, and their components and connection with the modern understanding of a city as an ecosystem. It proves that cities are not only a collection of buildings but also of processes and requires new approaches to urban design in the changing context.
