| Abstract |
Konstantin Istomin created his «color» and «painting» studio courses to complete the program of
basic artistic education in VKUTEMAS. The program was based on the theory of «color
movement», and also on his own treatments of light and shadow techniques in painting. Practical
exercises of the course applied to the problems of correlation of form and color in depiction and
means of composition of the picture-plane. Tree main types of depiction character – «planner»,
«volumetric» and «spatial», were trained on the base of formal compositions and pictorial
exercises, mainly still-lives from the studio arrangements.
