PERCEPTION OF SPACE IN REGARD OF THE IMPACT OF LIGHT

Abstract

We do so to say read the physical space, therefore there is a certain impression in any case. This impression very much depends on the given light situation. Adding light to space serves as a (if not: the) basis for the optical perception.

We know (proven by experience) that the impact of light is far more than only showing (highlighting) an objective information of space. This knowledge is underlined by cognitive psychology, that explains that environmental perception is affected by personal experiences. Furthermore we all know that lighting conditions do effect emotions and create spatial mood. Although it is known by day to day experience and proven by scientific testings the relation between the knowledge of a given space and its lighting conditions is not yet finally clear.

My goal of awareness beyond the testings is to find out in which way we receive, percept and remind environment under the conditions of artificial light. The contribution wants to carry on the research of the way orientation and moving works in cityscape during nighttimes under the condition of artificial light.
