Abstract The article deals with the problem of preserving the historical and architectural heritage of rural settlements as an indicator of the national cultural code on the example of one of the oldest settlements of the Komi Republic – the village of Izhma. The results of long-term research initiatives expressed in the concept of reviving the lost historical context of the settlement as the basis for its further socio-economic development are presented. The concept of revival includes the re-creation of the role of the temple complex as the cultural and spiritual center of the village and is focused on residential buildings as the main and mass type of settlement object that can form a new or revive the historical context based on the proposed design code.
Keywords: sustainable development, reconstruction, restoration, preservation of rural architectural heritage, national and spiritual identity
