AbstractCaravanserais are divided into three 3 groups: 1 – caravanserais (built on intercity caravan routes), 2 – urban caravanserais (these caravanserais were usually used for commercial purposes) and 3 – caravanserais on bridges (these were built on the right and left sides of large bridges on caravan roads). Examples of 1 group caravanserais are «Miajik», «Sangachal» and «Garghabazar». In contrast to 1 group caravanserais, the urban type was intended for trade and consisted of two floors and more. 2 group of caravanserais includes the caravanserai of Shah Abbas in Ganja and in the old fortress of Baku. Caravanserais on bridges were intended for merchants to spend the night after a long journey. Compared to the others, these caravanserais were smaller. Examples of such caravanserais are ones on the right and left coasts of the «Girmisi korpu» (Red Bridge) built on Khram tea in the 12th century in Gazakh district.
