Abstract In the XXI century, the comfortable environment of the city becomes a category associated not only with a specific material space. When designing urban improvement, it is necessary to take into account the interests of different groups of citizens, united by the public spaces of the city. Creating a comfortable environment is connected with understanding of personal freedom and the problem of creating conditions for the development of an open society. The article presents the training programs of leading Russian universities in the field of «environmental design», which considers ways to create conditions for social elevators in urban landscaping.
Keywords: urban development, architectural education, comfortable environment, urban improvement
