Authors D. Popova, G. Cherkasov
Moscow Institute of Architecture (State Academy), Moscow, Russia
Abstract The article examines the issue of integrating the historical and industrial clusters of Kolomna (in particular, Kolomna Plant, Kolomna Heavy Machine Tool Plant) and Lukhovitsy (Lukhovitsky Aviation Plant) into the modern urban environment. The paper suggests to create a historical, architectural, technological and tourist cluster Kolomna-Lukhovitsy (HATTC), which combines several features such as historical sites and clusters of civil and temple architecture, as well as elements of industrial heritage. The article discusses foreign practices for the development of the traditional industrial environment and domestic practices for the reorganisation of historical industrial areas. It also looks into their social adaptation examining the case of the Octava cluster in Tula. The paper points out the socio-economic, architectural and tourist potential of the historical industrial sites, and defines the advantages of its development. The article offers the project strategies for the integration of the industrial capacities of the cluster.
