Abstract The publication deals with theatrical buildings in the city of Moscow. The author's proposal was put forward to create an experimental theater center. The formation of a typologically new object is due to the high interest of the population in cultural and entertainment institutions offering a wide range of functional services and the desire of many theaters to create an appropriate space. Currently there is not enough professional literature covering this issue. On the basis of the project experience, the author of the article showed the possible functional planning solution of the experimental theater center, the nomenclature of the main zones and rooms was determined. The tendencies of development of architecture of future theater centers are considered.
