Authors T.S. Semichevskaya, A.V. Solovieva, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, RUDN, Moscow, Russia
Abstract The article considers the main factors due to which the "Russian style" in the architecture of the Russian Empire of the late XIX - early XX century acquired the status of "state" and began to play a key role in shaping the image of a great power. The role of state power in the person of the emperors Alexander III and Nicholas II in the development of national trends in art, the protection and restoration of architectural heritage and the reform of Russia's architectural education for the revival of the traditions of Old Russian civil and temple architecture is characterized. The main tendencies of the development of architecture in the style of "Russian ornament" in Russia and abroad for demonstrating the national roots of the Russian autocracy are analyzed. During the period under review, a significant transformation of Russia's image of greatness under the influence of historical events, the change of ideological programs and the architectural order system was noted.
