Abstract |
A survey of short-term designs done by students of the architectural ecology course shows their readiness to solve problems of sustainable development. A "Tourist eco-town on the Tbilisi-Nazran highway" by S. Konchakov is based on the principle of balance between nature and human activities, reached through creating a fractal town, compatible with the natural landscape structure. On the other hand, "City in Cosmos" by A. Vorkacheva presents a future of cities for 3000 inhabitants with flora and fauna being grown artificially and set in space, leaving the Earth a nature sanctuary. Both a realistic and a fantastic approaches have resulted in 25 creative ideas deserving further elaboration.
