Abstract The rapidly growing interest and popularity of digital simulation research in the field of architectural heritage attracts the attention of a wide audience. However, the apparent simplicity of the many non-specialists in the use of computer programs in the study of the monuments of architecture leads to a deeply wrong and extremely dangerous results, defamatory sometimes achieve historical and architectural science. Based on many years of experience with historical scientific reconstruction made in the framework of the research activities of the Department of History of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Moscow Institute of Architecture, as well as the achievements of the international experience in this article is an attempt to draw attention to the most typical mistakes and dangerous trends emerging in the last decade in contemporary architectural practice by reference to the historical reconstruction.
